Tate Modern

Maylim were contracted by Mace to complete the redevelopment and improvement works the the Tate Modern's external space.

Overview

Our remit for this project was to develop an inviting and functional area for the gallery patrons and passing public. The client’s specification was also focused on creating better disability access for visitors.

Our programme for this project was varied and diverse; we transformed the West building with soft landscaping schemes within large communal spaces. We installed granite benches and completed extensive concrete work to complement the Tate’s iconic architecture. Street furniture including secure cycles stands, bollards and bins were installed to ensure a convenient, safe and clean environment. To soften the hard landscaping and bold geometric architecture we planted a variation of mature trees and plants. By night the area is illuminated by a bespoke lighting scheme.

Throughout the durations of the works the gallery remained open. This required close co-ordination and care in order to not disrupt the 5 million visitors that visit the world-famous gallery each year.
